The Bluegrass Players are excited to announce auditions for Honk! The Musical, a heartwarming and fun musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling.” This traditional musical is the perfect opportunity for an intergenerational cast – we need performers of all ages! Whether you’re a seasoned actor or new to the stage, Honk! is a show you don’t want to miss.

About Honk! The Musical:
This charming, family-friendly musical tells the story of Ugly, a duckling who doesn’t quite fit in with his family or the other animals on the farm. Through his journey, Ugly meets a variety of quirky and lovable characters, learning about acceptance, kindness, and being true to yourself. Filled with catchy songs, humorous moments, and heartfelt messages, Honk! is a delightful retelling of “The Ugly Duckling” that speaks to all ages.
The show’s lively music, engaging characters, and humorous twists make it an exciting opportunity for actors of all experience levels. There are roles for all ages, from young ducklings to wise old animals, making this a great chance for families to perform together.

Character List for Honk! The Musical:
- Ugly – The main character, a duckling who is different from the others and embarks on a journey of self-discovery.
- Ida – Ugly’s loving and protective mother, who believes in him even when others don’t.
- Drake – Ugly’s father, who is a bit less understanding but still cares for his family.
- The Cat – The sly and cunning villain of the story who tries to trick Ugly.
- Greylag – A confident and brave goose who leads a squadron of geese.
- Dot – Greylag’s supportive and smart wife.
- Maureen – A comical, chatty moorhen who is friends with Ida.
- The Turkey – A pompous and slightly foolish bird who doesn’t like Christmas.
- Queenie – A domesticated cat who is posh and playful.
- Lowbutt – A house chicken who is friends with Queenie and is a little snooty.
- The Bullfrog – A friendly and optimistic frog who encourages Ugly to embrace who he is.
- Grace – The most beautiful and admired duck on the lake, a little bit of a diva.
- Henrietta – A kind-hearted chicken in the barnyard.
- Jay Bird – A fun and fast-talking bird who works as a reporter.
- Father Swan – The father of Penny, one of the swans Ugly meets on his journey.
- Mother Swan – The mother of Penny, kind and accepting.
- Penny – A graceful swan who sees Ugly for who he truly is and helps him find his place.
- Beaky, Fluff, Billy, Downy – Ugly’s duckling siblings, often teasing him for being different.
- Farmyard Animals & Birds – A variety of fun ensemble roles with plenty of opportunities for humor and interaction.
