Prepare to step into the world of ambition, intrigue, and fate! Macbeth, one of Shakespeare’s most gripping tragedies, tells the story of a Scottish general whose quest for power leads him down a dark and dangerous path. Filled with unforgettable characters, supernatural elements, and intense drama, this production promises a thrilling challenge for actors and a captivating experience for audiences.

Character List

  • Macbeth
    A brave Scottish general and Thane of Glamis. Ambitious and easily influenced, he becomes consumed by his desire for power.
  • Lady Macbeth
    Macbeth’s wife. Ambitious, cunning, and persuasive—she encourages Macbeth’s darkest ambitions.
  • The Three Witches
    Mysterious, supernatural figures who prophesy Macbeth’s rise and fall. They set the story’s events in motion.
  • Banquo
    Macbeth’s friend and fellow general. Loyal and wise; his descendants are prophesied to inherit the throne.
  • King Duncan
    The good and respected King of Scotland, whose murder marks Macbeth’s descent into tyranny.
  • Malcolm
    King Duncan’s eldest son and rightful heir to the throne. He flees Scotland after his father’s murder.
  • Donalbain
    King Duncan’s younger son. He also flees for safety after the king’s death.
  • Macduff
    A nobleman of Scotland. Loyal to Duncan, he becomes Macbeth’s nemesis and seeks justice.
  • Lady Macduff
    Macduff’s wife. A strong and caring woman, she represents innocence destroyed by Macbeth’s actions.
  • Fleance
    Banquo’s young son. His escape from Macbeth’s plot maintains the witches’ prophecy.
  • Lennox, Ross, Angus, Menteith, Caithness
    Scottish noblemen who serve as messengers, supporters, and commentators throughout the play.
  • The Porter
    The castle’s doorkeeper, providing comic relief in a dark moment.
  • Seyton
    Macbeth’s chief servant in the later acts.
  • Hecate
    The queen of the witches, who helps orchestrate Macbeth’s downfall.
  • Other roles:
    Murderers (hired by Macbeth), Gentlewoman (attends Lady Macbeth), Doctor, Soldiers, Messengers, and Attendants.

A Note of Caution (or Not!)

The last time we planned Macbeth, Covid hit and the production was canceled. Edwin jokingly blames the entire pandemic on Mr. Chad for saying “Macbeth” in the theater while preparing for the previous audition. If you’re superstitious, you might want to avoid Mr. Chad on this subject—he doesn’t follow any of the traditional theater folk superstitions!
