Spotlight Acting School auditions
Spotlight Acting School auditions are for student productions and programs. Each notice gives the age range and production-specific information. Students learn through production while developing confidence, focus, acting, singing, dancing, and public-speaking skills.

- Every child who auditions is guaranteed a role in the school production
Bluegrass Players community-theater auditions
The Bluegrass Players are the community-theater troupe at The Spotlight Playhouse. Their auditions are open to community members, and you do not need to be a Spotlight Acting School student to audition. Most productions are adult, with several intergenerational productions throughout the year. There is no fee to participate in a Bluegrass Players production. Productions use the costume collection and other resources at The Spotlight Playhouse and Spotlight Acting School, and actors may occasionally help find a costume piece or small prop.
We keep these opportunities on the school’s audition page intentionally. Spotlight Acting School students benefit from seeing and taking part in community-theater opportunities as they continue developing their skills. Depending on the production, some students may also be eligible to audition for a Bluegrass Players show. The specific audition notice always has the details. Every production casts from open auditions, so newcomers and returning actors are considered together.
How people get involved
Bluegrass Players involvement generally happens production by production. People may begin through an audition, backstage work, costumes or props, front-of-house help, or another volunteer role. There is no separate school enrollment requirement for community-theater auditions, and the troupe’s production notices explain how to take part in each opportunity.

What to expect at an audition
Audition formats vary by production. Cold reads are common, and a prepared monologue may be optional, but the audition notice for the specific show is always the authority. Musical auditions may include singing, so follow the instructions in that production’s notice. If you cannot attend the posted audition, contact the person listed in the notice and ask whether another arrangement may be possible. If you have planned conflicts during the rehearsal period, mention them at the audition. The notice for that show lists the rehearsal dates and any dates where attendance is required.
Rehearsals and production commitments
Rehearsal schedules are show-specific. They commonly take place on weekday evenings over several weeks, but the number of nights, times, weekend rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, locations, and attendance expectations vary by production and role.
