Spotlight Acting School’s Seussical the Musical is a big, colorful show, and it needed big, colorful things. The Circus McGurkus signs you see on stage this season did not come from a catalog. They came from a workbench in Madison County.
Ken Koshman and Albert Lindsay run a family maker venture called Camp Creations. While they were building weapons for the Bluegrass Players’ Wolves of Sherwood on the main stage, they were also building for our students. For Seussical that meant a baby grand piano and stool, a judge’s stand, a television, and these hand painted Circus McGurkus signs that frame the stage.

The signs are pure Seuss. Bold red lettering, scalloped edges, scattered stars. They look pulled straight from the book, because that was the point. Every piece these two build starts with the world the show is trying to make real. The helicopter that anchors the show’s big number is theirs too, and it fits the same idea.
BereaOnline wrote an article about this. We are sharing their perspective from our side: read the full story of Ken, Albert, and Camp Creations, from a childhood spent building a Star Wars AT AT out of a Kleenex box to the 3D printer on their mom’s desk.
Come see the Circus McGurkus for yourself this season.
